Vegan Sloppy Joes

Look for a meatless sandwiches that doesn't leave you feeling hungry? Yes, please! This meatless options is a unique alternative that doesn’t cut back on flavor! Bring back a classic with Vegan Sloppy Joes. 


Ingredients for lentils
2 cups vegetable broth
1 cup green lentils, well rinsed

Ingredients for Sloppy Joes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 sweet onion, chopped
5 garlic cloves, minced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 jalapeño, diced with seeds
Salt and pepper to taste
1 4-ounce can tomato paste 
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 to 1 cup white vinegar 
1/2 teaspoon chili powder 
1 teaspoon ground cumin 
1 pinch smoked paprika 

Whole Wheat Hamburger Rolls
Chips of your choice, (kettle chips are great)!



  1. Boil lentils in vegetable broth. Follow package directions. (The Combi-Steam oven is perfect for making the lentils too! The same package directions apply.)
  2. In a large sauté pan, heat oil and salt and pepper. Sauté garlic, onions, jalapeños and pepper until softened and slightly browned.
  3. Deglaze the pan with 1/2 cup vinegar or more, as needed. Add all other ingredients, including the lentils. 
  4. Serve with raw onion, whole wheat rolls or your favorite chips for scooping what falls onto the plate!
